Frequently Asked Questions

At Community.lawyer, we believe strongly in the work nonprofits like bar associations and legal incubators are doing in providing the public with a trusted alternative to strictly for-profit marketplaces like Avvo and Rocket Lawyer -- and we never want cost to stand in the way of supporting that mission.

That's why, in addition to our paid Premium Plan, we offer our free Standard Plan, which has no setup, licensing, or transaction fees. The Standard and Premium Plans both include the major feature sets like branded intake website, attorney accounts, and administrator dashboard.

The Premium Plan also includes a Monthly Uptime Guarantee of 99.9% and a 24/7 Priority Technical Support Guarantee, as well as a growing list of enhanced features. Among these enhanced features are: (1) an API that makes your service connectable to outside web platforms (e.g. Salesforce and legal triage portals); (2) integrations with customizable document assembly offerings; and (3) functionality to create and automate billing for annual and/or membership dues.

Note that payment processing for both percentage and intake/consultation fees is available for FREE under the Standard Plan.

The subscription fee charged under the Premium Plan is based on a rate of 75 cents per lawyer member per month. For example, if a lawyer referral service has 150 lawyer members, the total monthly subscription fee would be $115.

Community.lawyer also has a number of partners with portals that will be launching in the next few months.

We understand that each of our partners -- be they a bar association, legal incubator, or other kind of legal network -- has its own unique constellation of needs and goals. For that reason, our software provides a wide range of different customizations, including optional features for collecting payment by check and/or credit card, integrating reduced fee panels, and online intake modules for self-referral and staff-review.

Our platform supports a variety of integrations that ensure your Community.lawyer portal works in concert with other systems upon which your organization relies. Currently, our platform integrates with database solutions like Aptify, YourMembership, and CiviCRM, as well as leading payment processors like Authorize.Net, AffiniPay/LawPay, Stripe, and PayPal. If your preferred database or payment processor isn’t listed, just reach out and we can investigate whether an integration is possible.

At Community.lawyer, we take data security extremely seriously. That's why we have implemented industry-standard data security protocols like database encryption and SSL. When processing payments, we never store or transmit sensitive financial data because we integrate directly with the PCI-compliant payment processor of your choice.

The Open Source Commitment is a first-of-its-kind guarantee that we've started building into each of our partnership agreements with legal referral networks. It ensures that if we were to ever discontinue our core referral service portal technology or stop offering the free version of it to our partners, then we would open source it for everyone to use.

As a public benefit corporation, we're committed to doing things differently than a "normal" for-profit company, and this is just one small step in that direction. If you want to find out more about the Open Source Commitment, don't hesitate to reach out.
